The artwork
An original and exquisite work depicting the Trials of Christ, painted by Botticelli.
The Trials of Christ is a fresco by Sandro Botticelli, painted between 1480 and 1482 and forming part of the decoration of the middle register of the Sistine Chapel in the Vatican.
On 27 October 1480 Botticelli, with other important Florentine painters, set off for Rome, where he had been summoned on the advice of Lorenzo the Magnificent as an "ambassador" of the city's cultural superiority, in a project of reconciliation with Pope Sixtus IV.
