The artwork
A rare 18th-century engraving of a bishop’s tomb, perched on a small hill, by Giovanni Antonio Canal, known as Canaletto. Prominent on the left side is the tomb, a temple beneath an arched roof. Near the tomb is the bank of a river, while further back a city is drawn with its main monuments. The sky is clear, with a few clouds on the horizon. The engraving is undated. Canaletto created other variants of this work.
