An original and rare 18th-century view of the River Thames in London, by Giovanni Antonio Canal. In the foreground is the great river, plied by boats of various sizes. Canal has painted the water in shades of light green and light blue. On the left a long embankment extends, with access to the river. Further back is the city of London, with its buildings and churches. The sky is clear and cloudless. The painting, an oil on canvas, is undated.
The painting is on display at the Yale Center for British Art, Paul Mellon Collection, USA.
