The artwork
An original and exquisite work depicting the San Marco Altarpiece, or Coronation of the Virgin, painted by Botticelli.
The San Marco Altarpiece (or Coronation of the Virgin with Saints John the Evangelist, Augustine, Jerome and Eligius) is a tempera painting on panel made between 1488 and 1490 and held in the Uffizi Gallery in Florence.
The work comes from the chapel of Sant'Alò on the inner façade to the left of the entrance of the church of San Marco in Florence, where it had been commissioned by the Goldsmiths' Guild around 1488.
