An original and luminous 18th-century depiction of the Punta della Dogana in Venice, by Giovanni Antonio Canal, known as Canaletto. In the foreground is the landing stage at the Punta della Dogana, with boats passing close by. The Grand Canal is very busy, with the island of San Giorgio Maggiore in the background. The sky is clear, with a few white clouds, but the day is fine. The painting, an oil on canvas, is dated 1726. Canaletto created several variants of this painting.
