An original and luminous depiction of the Molo in Venice seen from St Mark's Basin, by Giovanni Antonio Canal, known as Canaletto. A distinctive feature of the painting is the shades of yellow and light green used throughout the canvas. In the foreground is the basin with all the boats. The painting shows the Doge's Palace, the bell tower and the other buildings of St Mark's Square. The sky is clear, with a few white clouds on the horizon. The painting, an oil on canvas, is undated. Canal created numerous variants of this work.
