The artwork
An original and luminous 18th-century depiction of the island of San Giorgio, seen from the Punta della Dogana, by Giovanni Antonio Canal, known as Canaletto. In the foreground is the Punta della Dogana, with a few boats on the Grand Canal, while further back Canaletto has painted the island of San Giorgio Maggiore in the afternoon sun. The sky is clear, with a few white clouds, but the day is fine. The picture, an oil on canvas, is undated. Canaletto created several variants of this painting.
The artwork is part of a private collection.
