An original and rare 18th-century view of the Grand Canal looking towards the Rialto Bridge, by Giovanni Antonio Canal. In the foreground is the Grand Canal, plied by boats of various sizes. Canal has painted the water in shades of light green and light blue. Notable is the reflection of the sun on the water, on the right, with some palazzi "darkened" by their own shadows. The left side, by contrast, is brightly lit by the sun, while further back is the Rialto Bridge. The sky is very cloudy, shaded in blue and light blue, with white for the clouds. The painting, an oil on canvas, is dated 1725.
