An original and luminous 18th-century view of the Grand Canal looking towards Palazzo Corner, by Giovanni Antonio Canal. In the foreground is the Grand Canal, plied by boats of various sizes, including some gondolas. Canal has painted the water in shades of light green and light blue. Prominent on the left of the painting is Palazzo Corner, reflected in the waters of the canal. On the right are further palazzi and boats moored along the bank. The sky is shaded in light blue, with pink for the clouds. The painting, an oil on canvas, is dated 1724. Canal painted numerous variants of this work.
