The artwork
An original and rare 18th-century view of the Grand Canal seen from Campo San Vio, by Giovanni Antonio Canal, known as Canaletto. In the foreground is the Grand Canal, plied by boats of various sizes. Canal has painted the water in shades of light green and light blue. The Venetian palazzi overlook the Grand Canal. The sky is slightly cloudy, shaded in light blue, with white for the clouds. The painting, an oil on canvas, is undated. Canal created other variants of this work.
