An original and rare 18th-century view of the Grand Canal looking towards the church of Santa Maria della Salute, by Giovanni Antonio Canal. In the foreground is the Grand Canal, plied by boats of various sizes. Canal has painted the water in shades of light green and light blue. The Venetian palazzi overlook the Grand Canal. The sky is slightly cloudy, shaded in blue and light blue, with white for the clouds. The painting, an oil on canvas, is dated 1730. Canal created other variants of this work.
