The artwork

"The Dead Christ Supported by Two Angels" by Andrea Mantegna depicts the body of the dead Christ held up by two grieving angels. The anatomical realism of the body, the defined musculature and the drapery of the fabrics show Mantegna's mastery of detail and close-up perspective. The angels, with expressions of grief and pity, emphasise divine suffering and heavenly compassion.
