The artwork
The Baptism of the Neophytes is a fresco by Masaccio, part of the decoration of the Brancacci Chapel in the church of Santa Maria del Carmine in Florence.
The work, datable to around 1425-1426, depicts a scene from the life of St Peter in which the apostle baptises some new Christians, or "neophytes" (Acts of the Apostles, II, 41).
