Vincenzo Camuccini's (1771-1844) most famous work on this subject is the monumental oil painting on canvas entitled "The Death of Julius Caesar" (c. 1806), held in Naples.
However, as was often the case with great history paintings, Camuccini produced numerous drawings, sketches and preparatory studies in preparation for the final composition. This is a masterly example.
