The Adoration of the Magi is a painting in oil on panel attributed to Giorgione, created around 1506–1507 and kept at the National Gallery, London. The work depicts the Gospel scene of the Epiphany, with the Holy Family — Mary, Joseph and the Child — before a ruined hut, while the three Magi, dressed in rich Oriental robes, approach in adoration, offering their gifts.
The composition is divided into two parts: on the left the Holy Family in half-light, gathered and silent, and on the right the procession of the Magi in full light, with pages and horses enlivening the scene. What is striking is the lively palette of colours, the contrast between light and shadow and the brushwork alternating crisp and soft strokes, testimony to Giorgione's expressive maturity.
