An original and luminous 18th-century view of Westminster Bridge in London, by Giovanni Antonio Canal, known as Canaletto. Prominent is the great river, with many boats, some at the bank, others under way. Further back is the bridge with its 15 arches linking the two banks of the Thames. On the right is the terrace of Somerset House, the viewpoint of the scene, where a family is strolling. In the distance, again on the right, part of 18th-century London can be seen.
The sky shows light clouds on the horizon, but the day remains fine. The picture, an oil on canvas, is undated and belongs to a private collection.
