Original and luminous 18th-century view of the Thames with Westminster Bridge in London, painted by Giovanni Antonio Canal, known as Canaletto. Canaletto's technique is pen and brown ink with gray wash on paper. The great London river, with its boats of various sizes, stands out, while Westminster Bridge can be seen in the background. On the right bank of the Thames, London buildings and the lighthouse can be seen. The sky has dark clouds on the horizon, but the day remains clear.
There are three variations of this painting painted by Canaletto. The work is undated and is exhibited at the Yale Center for British Art, Paul Mellon Collection, USA.
