The artwork
Original and luminous eighteenth-century view of the Thames from Richmond House, painted by Giovanni Antonio Canal, known as Canaletto. The great London river, with its vast width, dominates the entire painting, traversed by boats of various sizes. On the opposite bank, London unfolds, with its Anglo-Saxon-style buildings and tall churches. In the foreground, a building overlooks the river. A few people are walking along the promenade. The sky has dark clouds on the horizon, but the day remains clear.
The work is dated 1746. There is another variant of this painting created by Canaletto.
