The work
The work Terme di Tito sull'Esquilino by Luigi Canina is a graphic representation of the ancient Roman baths that the emperor Titus had built on the Oppio hill, near the Colosseum, in the 1st century AD. The work is part of a large work of survey and documentation of ancient Roman monuments that Luigi Canina, an Italian architect and archaeologist of the 19th century, created with great scientific and artistic rigor. The work shows the plan and perspective of the baths, highlighting the different environments that made them up, such as the frigidarium (the cold bath), the tepidarium (the warm bath), the calidarium (the hot bath), the gymnasium (the place for physical exercises) and the various porticoes and gardens that surrounded the complex. The work allows us to appreciate the beauty and functionality of the Roman baths, which were not only places for personal hygiene, but also centers of culture, leisure and sociality. Canina's work is also a testimony to his love for classical antiquity and his desire to preserve and enhance the historical and artistic heritage of the city of Rome. How reproductions are made
