The work
The work "Terentius Neo and his wife" is a famous fresco found in Pompeii, dating back to the 1st century AD. This painting portrays a married couple, probably owners of a bakery, given the presence of a papyrus roll which could indicate their culture or their social status. The man is represented with a papyrus scroll, a symbol of education, while the woman holds a wax tablet, also a sign of literacy. The fresco is famous for its realism and the detailed representation of somatic features, which reflects the attempt to portray individuals in a realistic and personal way. This work offers a significant insight into the daily life and social dynamics of ancient Pompeii.
