The artwork
“Dynamic Suprematism” is a title identifying several Suprematist variations made by Kazimir Malevich from 1915–1916, when the artist reached the full development of his abstract language. In these works, squares, rectangles, oblique strokes and elementary geometric shapes move in the white space like suspended elements, free of any link with the objective world. Malevich explores the idea of a new non-figurative reality: space is no longer the representation of a setting, but a mental dimension, pure visual energy.
The dynamism arises from the interaction of colour, form and void, creating a sense of rotation, thrust and levitation. The artist’s aim is to overcome gravity and the earthly horizon, projecting art towards a “cosmic” and spiritual dimension. Dynamic Suprematism thus represents one of the high points of the Russian avant-garde, anticipating concepts of design, architecture and graphics that would profoundly influence 20th-century Modernism.
