Original 18th-century view of Piazza San Marco with the Church of San Geminiano in the background, painted by Giovanni Antonio Canal, known as Canaletto. In the foreground there is the rectangular square, with the large bell tower of San Marco on the left. Behind the bell tower there is a large Venetian palace overlooking the square.
The square is crowded with people, and there are also stalls displaying scenes of daily life. On the right, other buildings are clearly visible, side by side, overlooking the square. The sky is clear with a few white clouds on the horizon. The painting, an oil on canvas, is dated 1724.
The work is held at the Royal Collection in London.
