In the foreground there is the magnificent Basilica di San Marco, painted in detail in the evening light by Canaletto. In the churchyard there are people portraying scenes of daily life. Further in the background there is the bell tower of San Marco. The sun is setting, and there are some clouds.
The painting, an oil on canvas, is dated 1760.
