An original and luminous depiction of the San Marco basin in Venice, painted by Giovanni Antonio Canal, known as Canaletto. In the foreground there is the basin with all the boats, some anchored on the shore, while others are navigating the Grand Canal. On the left, the painting depicts the Doge's Palace, the bell tower of San Marco, and the other buildings in the square. Near the right, the island of San Giorgio can be seen.
The sky is clear, with a few white clouds on the horizon. The painting, an oil on canvas, is dated 1738. Other variations of this work exist.
