An original and luminous depiction of the Molo in Venice seen from St Mark's Basin, by Giovanni Antonio Canal, known as Canaletto. A distinctive feature of the painting is the columns of St Mark and St Theodore in the foreground. At the Molo are anchored boats and people coming and going. Further back one sees the dome of the church of Santa Maria della Salute and other ships manoeuvring to moor at the quay. The sky is clear, with a few white clouds on the horizon. The painting, an oil on canvas, is undated. Canaletto created several variants of this work.
