The artwork
A marvellous, clear view of Venice featuring the Bacino di San Marco, by Bernardo Bellotto, seen from the Giudecca Canal. The basin is crossed by various boats, while further back the city is depicted with its bell towers, St Mark's and the Doge's Palace. The day is clear, and Venice is very lively, a hub of trade.
The painting, an oil on canvas, has other similar versions with colour variations. It is part of a private collection.
