Original and luminous depiction of the Venice basin, painted by Giovanni Antonio Canal, known as Canaletto. In the foreground there is the column of San Todaro, the basin with all the boats, some anchored on the shore, while others are navigating the Grand Canal. In the small square surrounding the basin there are scenes of daily life. The painting depicts, on the right side, a Venetian palace, while in the distance, the church of Santa Maria della Salute and Punta Dogana can be seen. The sky is clear, with a few light pink clouds on the horizon.
The painting, an oil on canvas, is dated 1750. Other variations of this work exist.
