Original and luminous view of the Piazzetta di San Marco, with a detail of the Column of San Todaro, painted by Giovanni Antonio Canal, known as Canaletto. In the foreground is the Column of San Todaro, seen from the side, overlooking the Piazzetta. At the foot of the pier are scenes of daily life and several boats. Further in the background is Punta della Dogana with the beautiful Church of Santa Maria della Salute. The sky is clear but with a few light pink clouds.
The painting, an oil on canvas, is dated 1750. Other variations of this work by Canaletto exist.
