A rare and original painting depicting the destruction of the Turkish fleet in the Bay of Chesma, made by Jakob Philipp Hackert in 1772. The sea is full of tightly packed galleons. In the foreground, on the left, a galleon is burning, its fire lighting up the scene. In the background much smoke rises, fed by other fires on galleons; some sailors in longboats are trying to save themselves.
The painting is on display at the Peterhof Palace, Petrodvorets, St Petersburg.
