The work
Septimius Severus was Roman emperor from 193 to 211, founder of the Severan dynasty. His rise marked a turning point, introducing the "dominated", with the emperor seen as dominus and no longer as first among equals in the Senate. Severus initiated an imperial cult that anticipated a sacred monarchy, adopting the title of dominus ac deus. His policies included military and economic reforms, as well as an ambivalent position towards Christians, alternating between tolerance and persecution
