Bring home the refined elegance of "Saramaru Dayu" by Katsushika Hokusai, presented here in a refined reproduction on authentic Amalfi paper, ideal for those who desire a piece of Japanese art capable of transforming a wall into a poetic landscape.
"Saramaru Dayu" by Katsushika Hokusai is part of the famous series "One Hundred Poems Explained by the Nurse" (Hyakunin isshu uba ga etoki), dedicated to the medieval Japanese poetic anthology that collects one hundred compositions by one hundred different authors. In this print, Hokusai interprets the poem attributed to the poet Sarumaru Dayu, in which the braying of a deer among autumn leaves evokes the melancholy of the season. The artist translates the text into an image through a hilly landscape, dotted with trees in red and blue tones, houses with thatched roofs, and figures walking, creating a scene suspended between daily life and poetic vision. Made as a colored woodblock print during the Edo period, the composition shows Hokusai's full control over perspectives and chromatic fields, and is today considered one of the most evocative interpretations of the autumn theme in the ukiyo-e tradition.
