A marvellous view of Venice featuring the Campo Santi Giovanni e Paolo, made by Giovanni Antonio Canal, known as Canaletto. The campo is dominated by the Romanesque-style church, which faces a canal crossed by boats, while the square extends on the right side of the painting. The two churches of San Giovanni and San Paolo stand side by side. On the other bank, facing the canal, is a row of handsome palaces.
The sky is cloudy and Venice is very lively. The picture, an oil on canvas, is dated 1726, and there is another similar depiction by Canaletto.
