The artwork
The San Luca Polyptych is a tempera on panel by Andrea Mantegna, made between 1453 and 1454 and held in the Pinacoteca di Brera in Milan.
The polyptych, a complex multi-panel composition marked by perspectival rigour and the strong monumentality of its figures, was commissioned by the Benedictine monks of the abbey of Santa Giustina in Padua for the church's chapel of San Luca in August 1453.
