In “San Giacomo di Rialto” Canaletto portrays the commercial heart of Venice, turning the campo into a stage teeming with everyday life. The great façade of the church, with its prominent clock, dominates the scene, while the broad portico opens onto a web of shops, stalls and passers-by who bargain, watch and cross the space.

The warm light slides over the ochre surfaces, bringing out the nuances of the plaster and the structure of the columns, while the figures, small but carefully rendered, convey the social dimension of the market: a place where time, money and relationships intersect without pause.

Feel history under your fingertips

Our reproductions are extremely faithful to the original and printed on fine Amalfi paper.

It is a paper made exclusively from cotton fibres, thick and naturally porous, yet soft to the touch, with the characteristic deckled edges that bear witness to its handcrafted making.

It is still made today using ancient medieval techniques, in the workshops of Amalfi.
