An original and very fine work depicting the San Cassiano Altarpiece, painted by Antonello da Messina.
The painting depicts the Virgin seated on a tall, imposing throne at the centre of the great altarpiece. She wears a richly decorated damask gown and with her left hand supports the shoulder of the infant Jesus.
On the left, St Nicholas of Bari holds a heavy volume on which rest three golden spheres. On the right, in the foreground, St Dominic wears a light woollen tunic covered by a dark linen surplice.
