Original and rare 18th-century view of the islet of San Cristoforo, seen from a jetty on another island, by Giovanni Antonio Canal, known as Canaletto. In the foreground there is the staircase with two observers gazing at the landscape. Further in the background, but to the right, there is the island of San Cristoforo. The water is painted in shades of light green, light brown, and blue, echoing the hues of a cloudy sky.
The painting, an oil on canvas, is dated 1722. Two other variations of this work exist.
