The artwork
A rare and romantic historical view of Castel Sant'Angelo painted by Gaspare Vanvitelli. The details are softened, and Rome is shown in the distance. Along the lower edge is the Tiber, plied by small boats carrying people or goods. The bridge spans the river with its Romanesque arches and statues.
Note the change of tone in the sky, seen at sunset with mixed shades of light blue and blue on the right, while on the left the colours are lighter. The dominant colour is brown, in the infinite shades that Gaspare Vanvitelli created.
This painting, too, is part of the prolific output that Vanvitelli created during his stays in Rome.
