An original painting, predominantly blue, by Jakob Philipp Hackert depicting a moment of naval battle. The Russo-Turkish War looms, and off the castle of Damietta the sailing ships clash. The sea is rough and the outcome of the battle is still uncertain. On some ships fires break out, with smoke blackening the clear sky dotted with a few clouds. The painting has a remarkable inner light, and the sky shows shades of light blue and blue.
The painting is on display at the Central Naval Museum, St Petersburg.
