The artwork
Interesting and historic view of the ruins of the Roman Forum, painted by Bernardo Bellotto. The remains of three Roman columns standing in a square containing the remains of monuments are at the centre of the scene. Citizens are seated in the square, while around it there are popular buildings. The sky is clear but with a few clouds.
The painting, an oil on canvas, is dated 1743. Another version of this work by Bellotto exists.
