Feel the history under your fingers

Our reproductions are extremely faithful to the original and printed on fine Amalfi paper .

It is a paper made exclusively of cotton fibres, thick and naturally porous , but soft to the touch, with the characteristic fringed edges that testify to its artisanal workmanship.

It is still made today according to ancient medieval techniques in the workshops of Amalfi.

The work

The Technique: Carriera uses pastel with such mastery that the young woman's skin becomes velvety and the fabrics almost impalpable. The softness of the tonal transitions is his trademark.

Iconography: Fire is not depicted as a devastating blaze, but in a delicate and symbolic way. The girl holds a burning brazier from which a wisp of smoke rises, while her reddish hair and the scarlet ribbon on her shoulder visually recall the heat of the element.

The Expression: The gaze is sweet and slightly melancholic, typical of the portraits of the Venetian artist, who preferred psychological introspection to the rigidity of the official portraits of the time.

Historical Context

Rosalba Carriera was a true pioneer: she was one of the few women of the 18th century to achieve international fame, profoundly influencing the Rococo style throughout Europe, especially in France.
