The artwork
A rare, original view of the lock of the town of Dolo made by Bernardo Bellotto. Prominent are the humble houses above the lock, while further in the background is a grander palace. In the foreground, by contrast, is the high retaining wall towering over the river. On the left-hand side, prominent, are two people looking at the landscape. The sky is clear but there are a few clouds on the horizon. The painting, an oil on canvas, is undated.
The painting is on display at the Yale University Art Gallery.
