Original and rare 18th-century view of the Riva degli Schiavoni, with a detail of some of the buildings opposite, painted by Giovanni Antonio Canal, known as Canaletto. In the foreground there is the Riva degli Schiavoni quay, bustling with people and used as a landing stage for smaller boats, including gondolas. The Doge's Palace dominates the scene, located to the side and followed along the Riva degli Schiavoni by other buildings. The sky is slightly cloudy, tinged with pale blue and white clouds.
The painting, an oil on canvas, is dated 1730. Two other versions of this work exist.
