The work
Clara Wagner-Grosch trained as a portraitist at the Grand Ducal School of Painting of Paul Borgmann in Karlsruhe, Roland Risse and Wilhelm Sohn in Düsseldorf, Karl Gussow in Berlin, Gustave Courtois (1853-1923) and Girardot in Paris.
He received numerous portrait commissions from the Hessian court society. In 1900 he met the landscape painter Jakob Wagner, originally from the canton of Basel-Landschaft, in Paris and with him in 1902 he moved to Locarno in the canton of Ticino, Switzerland. He spent much time in Germany and Sweden on portrait commissions. His photos also went to England and Russia. He celebrated exhibition successes in Berlin and Munich.
