The artwork
Original and rare 18th-century painting of the Rialto Bridge by Giovanni Antonio Canal, known as Canaletto. In the foreground there is the Grand Canal, bustling with boats, surrounded by beautiful Venetian palaces. Canaletto paints the canal water with shades of blue-green, taking on a color similar to that of the sky. Further in the background there is the covered Rialto Bridge, with its shops, a landmark for Venetians. The sky is clear, tinged with pale blue and white with a few white clouds.
The painting, an oil on canvas, is undated and is part of a private collection. Other variations of this work by Canaletto exist.
