The artwork
Original and rare 18th-century painting of the Rialto Bridge by Giovanni Antonio Canal, known as Canaletto. In the foreground there is the Grand Canal, bustling with boats, surrounded by beautiful Venetian palaces. Canaletto painted the canal water with shades of blue-green, taking on a color similar to that of the sky. Further in the background there is the Rialto Bridge with its shops. The sky is clear, tinged with pale blue and white, with a few white clouds.
The painting, an oil on canvas, is dated 1735. Other variations of this work by Canaletto exist.
