The artwork
Original and rare 18th-century engraving of the Rialto Bridge, created by Giovanni Antonio Canal, known as Canaletto, in pen and brown ink on paper. The foreground shows the Grand Canal, bustling with boats, surrounded by beautiful Venetian palaces. Further in the background there is the covered Rialto Bridge, with its shops, a landmark for Venetians.
The engraving is undated. Two other versions of this work by Canaletto exist, and it is held at the Ashmolean Museum, University of Oxford, UK.
