The artwork
An original and luminous depiction of the return to the Bacino di San Marco on Ascension Day, made by Giovanni Antonio Canal, known as Canaletto. Prominent is the basin with all its boats "dressed" for the festival, and the people on the Molo. The painting depicts the campanile of San Marco and the building opposite. In the foreground is a boat propelled by rowers.
The sky is clear, with a few white clouds on the horizon. The painting, an oil on canvas, is dated 1732.
