Girl before a Mirror by Pablo Picasso captivates at once with its emotional force and the subtle sense of intimacy that turns into unease. The female figure confronts her own image in an intense scene full of colour, allure and inner tension. It is a work that draws the eye and holds it, because within its visual beauty a deeper, more fragile and human dimension emerges.
Picasso builds the composition by setting the real figure, brighter and more harmonious, against the dark, altered reflection, creating a contrast that makes the painting so memorable and rich in symbolic readings.
