The artwork
Original and rare 18th-century view of the procession of the Knights of the Bath, painted by Giovanni Antonio Canal, known as Canaletto. In the foreground there is the small square in front of the large Gothic-style church, with a carpet spread out, and the knights, dressed in light red cloaks, walking in the procession. Some citizens are watching the unusual parade. There are many knights, and the procession they form is very long. The sky is clear with a few pink clouds on the horizon. The painting, an oil on canvas, is undated. There are several variations of this work created by Canaletto.
The work is exhibited at the Dean & Chapter of Westminster Abbey, in the United Kingdom.
