Primavera by Sandro Botticelli, painted around 1478–1482, is one of the most celebrated masterpieces of the Florentine Renaissance. Set in a mythological garden, the work depicts a complex interweaving of allegorical figures celebrating the rebirth of nature, love and harmony.
At the centre stands Venus, a symbol of balance and ideal beauty, while above her Cupid shoots the arrow of love. On the right Zephyr pursues Chloris, who is transformed into Flora, the personification of fruitful spring; on the left the Three Graces dance, accompanied by Mercury. Botticelli builds the scene through an elegant, musical line, favouring the rhythm of the gestures and the refinement of the botanical details. The work combines classical myth, Neoplatonic philosophy and visual poetry, offering a suspended, timeless vision of beauty.
